Simplifying Life Through Technology

Customer Testimonial: Dennis and Charleen Fishback

SoundVision LLC

On this special customer testimonial episode of “SoundVision Tech Talks,”  Mark is joined by Frederick, our former Shade Specialist, as they sit down with longtime clients Dennis and Charleen Fishback during one of our previous VIP client events.

The episode offers a candid look into the Fishbacks’ journey from unreliable technology providers to a seamless experience with SoundVision that left them feeling like part of the family. After years of frustration with integrators who “put it in and then wouldn’t follow up,” Dennis and Charleen found a refreshing change with SoundVision—clear communication, thorough planning, and a team that stands by their work.

Their project began with a vision for a home theater remodel in their 1,800-square-foot basement with 15-foot ceilings, but it quickly expanded to include strategically placed Wi-Fi access points and Lutron automated shades. With just one button press, their theater transforms into total darkness. Dennis even shares how the blackout environment helps their coon dogs sleep in—a surprising but welcome bonus!

Throughout the conversation, Dennis and Charleen reflect on the shift from transactional installs to long-term relationships. Their story highlights how great technology isn’t just about what you buy—it’s about the team behind it, and the peace of mind that comes with ongoing support.

This episode highlights what matters most in home technology:

  • A consultative design approach that prioritizes your needs over upsells
  • Responsive service and professionalism long after the install
  • A team that listens and delivers, leading to long-term trust

Whether you're new to smart home integration or considering your next upgrade, this episode illustrates why the right integrator makes all the difference.

Speaker 1:

Please welcome our next guest. So we have Dennis and Charlene Fishback in here and I do not know how you exactly found us or how you came to be customers, so I would love to hear this. So how did you find us?

Speaker 2:

He looked on the internet Just searched online Specifically.

Speaker 1:

what did you search, Do you?

Speaker 3:

remember Well, I was looking for like home theater, because the house we bought had this huge room in the basement where the people had painted a screen on the wall. Oh yeah, and had a projector for it and we knew we weren't going to live with that. Okay, and we had had some home theater installations in previous houses.

Speaker 1:

Local or somewhere else, no somewhere else.

Speaker 3:

Okay, and you know, with all the sound stuff, in fact, we've scaled back in this house. We had all kinds of external speakers and everything else that we didn't do here.

Speaker 1:

I'm curious what difference did you find in working with us versus your previous experience? Good or bad? It was the difference between night and day.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, how so? Because they put it in and then they wouldn't follow up with you and I don't know like I feel, like I'm part of the family here I can't wait. I mean I I mean the others. Once they got us bought into it, you know, it was like all over. And well, you know, frederick, I have his number. If we can't get a hold of anybody else, we call him and he takes care of it. He's a great project manager.

Speaker 1:

Well, thank you very much for that and the kind words for Frederick. So, charlene, we're very dense because we're guys. Probably about three years ago we kept hearing the same two things Make it easy and, essentially, service clients after the sale and we kept hearing it and hearing and hearing, and we, I'm sure, made all the same mistakes that the previous companies you worked with before. And so for the past, maybe even four years now, we just changed. We decided we're really a service company. We sell these products, which happened to be cool, but we're really a service company and so everything that we do we talk about it every week and every meeting how do we better serve our customers? So for you to say that as being a differentiator between what you had experienced before, that is very much music to my ears because we are really working hard on that. So we appreciate that a lot.

Speaker 2:

It's just no comparison.

Speaker 3:

We call and y'all come and hopefully you don't have to call that often, but we just keep adding to it.

Speaker 1:

We keep adding that's fine, we keep adding.

Speaker 2:

We wanted the external.

Speaker 3:

AP.

Speaker 2:

AP.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, Access point for Wi-Fi.

Speaker 2:

Now y'all can't get it. So now y'all are looking at another alternative for us.

Speaker 1:

Oh, those have been challenging.

Speaker 2:

You're just so up to date on everything that's out there.

Speaker 1:

And we actually have a Carla who is not here tonight. Carla is a hawk on that stuff. She can source anything. When something's not available, she is just on it. She's calling all the time. When can we get one? Just give me one, I just want one.

Speaker 2:

So we did their theater, we did their APs their TV upstairs.

Speaker 1:

We had it put in for them. And then the Lutron shades.

Speaker 2:

Oh cool, Very cool. I love that. One button push and it's total darkness.

Speaker 1:

Is it in your bedroom or is it in the basement?

Speaker 2:

Oh, in the basement it has 15 foot high ceilings and the room's about 1,800 square feet.

Speaker 1:

Wow. So my wife and I we just did shades in our bedroom. We literally didn't have shades. We had some nice drapes but they didn't actually close. So we finally did, did shades like two months ago, month and a half ago, and it is awesome. Now at night we have some Hunter Douglas shades in there.

Speaker 1:

Not only do they go up and down, but the panes in the middle open and close oh yeah, blind so in the morning they open, and so you have the sheer and it lets diffuse light in, and at night they close, and so it's black and it's much better for sleeping oh yeah, they're beautiful.

Speaker 3:

If we didn't have those shades downstairs, we'd have a real hard time seeing that picture up there because you got so much yeah so many windows and so much light coming in from outside, sure especially during the day.

Speaker 1:

I don't know, depending on the way the house faces and when that sun comes in, it might be a heat thing too yeah, it's not too bad on that porch, but oh, overhang.

Speaker 2:

That covers that up, so it helps a little bit. The thing I like about your company is that you didn't try to oversell us.

Speaker 1:

Well, I did, you just didn't buy it.

Speaker 2:

Oh my goodness, shut up, shut up.

Speaker 1:

Are you guys fans of Dave Ramsey? Do you know Dave Ramsey he has a tenant of salespeople should be very educational and consultative as opposed to pushy. Thank you, and so Zach, our director of sales. Many years ago we said you know what? That's what we need. To be Mentioned Wi-Fi you mentioned access points. Clearly, networks are very, very important nowadays, but they're complicated and there's like security stuff and there's all kinds of things associated with them. So we really try to be very consulting like and not pushy. Thank you, frederick. Again, thank you for noticing, because it's intentional.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, there is a secondary benefit to those screens come down shades keeps the coon dogs in the dark, so they don't get up before 6.

Speaker 2:

It does not work with our dogs?

Speaker 1:

Oh man, we have one. That just goes crazy. I'm glad it works for you. Dennis, where'd you guys move from?

Speaker 3:

This time from Virginia. Where, in Virginia, we lived outside of Blacksburg? Oh yeah, we had an 80-acre farm In the Shenandoah Valley. Well, it's not exactly. No, it's Jefferson National Forest.

Speaker 1:

Oh, wow, okay, we love that whole 81. It's beautiful out there. Yep, that's gorgeous. What brought you to Charlotte or to Mooresville?

Speaker 3:

Well, we kind of wore ourselves out there in terms of things to do and we had two horses and they passed away. Our daughter used to live next door to us there and then she ended up moving down here to Mint Hill. So we came down here to be closer to her. I got you I got you and we were kind of through with the mountains. We were ready to get back to the water. We had lived on a river for a long time in.

Speaker 1:

Virginia, oh, okay.

Speaker 2:

Excellent, and then we lived in California and Texas.

Speaker 1:

Wow, we're in California and we're in Texas.

Speaker 2:

We lived in Folsom up in California, we're in Texas. We lived in Folsom, it's outside.

Speaker 1:

Sacramento, oh yeah, okay, central part of the state.

Speaker 2:

And then we lived in San Jose, which is close to San Francisco. Oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

San Jose is huge. Now it's top 10 city in the country, right.

Speaker 3:

Is.

Speaker 1:

Folsom the capital no.

Speaker 3:

Sacramento, sacramento. Yeah, okay, folsom.

Speaker 1:

Prison, that's where he is yeah, and what about Texas?

Speaker 2:

We lived in Houston.

Speaker 3:

North of Houston. Okay, in the woodlands.

Speaker 1:

So you lived in the two most politically diverse states in the United States.

Speaker 2:

Correct yeah. There's a little bit of a change going from one to the other no matter which way you went, and California, after a couple years all I could say was they always had toilet seat covers in the bathroom and there was no smoking in the restaurant. And that's only two things I like oh my gosh, I had my mom sending me my navy beans because they called them something else out there, and it took me two years to figure it out.

Speaker 1:

Oh my goodness. Well, we're really really appreciative of you guys as customers and the opportunity to serve you, and we're just very thankful.

Speaker 2:

We appreciate you coming tonight and so and we've been recommending y'all, so we love that, we love that. So thank you guys very much.

Speaker 1:

Go, go, get some more to eat and some drink. And thanks again.

Speaker 3:

All.
